Project company ViA6West—which consists of HOCHTIEF, DIF Infrastructure IV and JOHANN BUNTE Bauunternehmung—is planning, financing, building the A6 federal highway between the Wiesloch/Rauenberg interchange and the Weinsberg intersection in Baden-Württemberg. In addition, the route section will be operated and maintained for 30 years. The partners will widen the route over a distance of 25.5 kilometers to six lanes—with no interruption to traffic. Also in addition, the existing 1.3-kilometer-long Neckar Valley bridge will be completely rebuilt and will also be available in six lanes in the future. The project also entails the operation and maintenance of the A6 over a total distance of 47.2 kilometers, some sections of which have already been upgraded.

The construction works will be handled by a joint venture between HOCHTIEF Infrastructure and JOHANN BUNTE Bauunternehmung. Apart from the six-lane upgrade and construction of the Neckar Valley bridge, ViA6West will build 36 further bridges along the route. Other work includes the construction of noise protection barriers over a distance of 13 kilometers, and four rest stops. In order to compensate for the built-up space, ViA6West will be taking various ecological balancing and replacement measures.ViA6West is paying special attention to the environment in all its work.

The operating company ViA6West Service GmbH & Co. KG will be providing emergency roadway measures, and will service and maintain the road furniture, take care of cleaning work, and deliver more complex service packages such as winter service and greenery maintenance. Throughout the entire project term of 30 years, ViA6West will maintain the route to a standard that is suitable for use by motor vehicles.

The A6 is being effected on the basis of an availability model. This means that the operator’s remuneration depends on the extent to which the upgraded route can be used by motorists. Quality aspects also play a role in the remuneration.
